Greetings from Lima! I’m Anand Mohan, CEO of Andean Anthracite Ace - Indian Group. Our operations in Peru focus on two key sectors: anthracite coal and precious metals. With over 33 years of experience in the mining industry and a background in geology, I’ve been working in Peru since 2012. I hold a Master’s degree from IIT Roorkee, India, and a finance degree that complements my technical expertise.
Eurocoke has long served as a critical junction where raw materials align with the strategic demands of the steel industry. In today’s uncertain global environment, this platform has become even more relevant. It enables raw material producers to connect directly with steel manufacturers, facilitating discussions that are essential to sustaining the industry.
Europe alone imports approximately 35 million tons of metallurgical coal annually. However, with the increasing momentum around green steel initiatives, there’s growing pressure on steelmakers to reassess their supply chains. Events like Eurocoke offer an ideal setting for both European and global steel producers to engage with raw material suppliers and explore sustainable long-term partnerships.
The steel industry currently faces a widening gap between supply and demand. A limited supply of raw materials is forcing many producers to reduce output, which is likely to impact steel prices in the near future. Platforms like Eurocoke allow stakeholders to come together, assess challenges, and build robust, future-proof supply strategies.
When we began developing our precious metals project in Peru around 2014–15, we discovered that the country held vast reserves of high-grade anthracite. Yet, surprisingly, Peru was not an active participant in the global anthracite market. This prompted us to explore further, and we uncovered over 1 billion tons of anthracite resources.
Recognizing the strategic value of this discovery, we made it our mission to link Peruvian anthracite with steel and ferroalloy producers across the globe.
Previously, Vietnam was among the top exporters of anthracite coal. After regulatory shifts, Russia took on a leading role—until geopolitical conflicts, such as the Russia-Ukraine war, disrupted the global supply chain. This has spurred demand for alternative sources, and Peru is now emerging as a promising new supplier.
To support this vision, we’ve strategically acquired over 40,000 hectares of land in Peru, securing more than 850 million tons of anthracite resources. This positions us to become a key player in the market and ensures long-term resource stability for our partners.
For any end customer, securing a steady, long-term supply of raw materials is crucial. That’s why we’re aiming to produce over 4 million tons of anthracite annually within the next two to three years. Our goal is not just to supply coal, but to become a reliable, sustainable partner to the steel industry.
I look forward to sharing more insights and connecting with industry leaders at Eurocoke. See you there — and thank you for your time.
