Advisory Board member Chris Bandmann of Wood Mackenzie talks to us about Eurocoke Summit 2025

We spoke with Chris Bandman, Senior Research Analyst for Metals & Mining, specializing in Steel & Raw Materials Markets at Wood Mackenzie. As a member of our advisory board, Chris shared his insights on the coke, coal, and steel industries, and explained why attending this year’s summit is essential.

Chris is responsible for providing comprehensive research on the Atlantic Basin’s metallurgical coal sector, covering supply, demand, pricing, and costs, with a particular focus on Europe. Before joining Wood Mackenzie, Chris worked at CRU, where he conducted market analysis for the European steel markets.

1. Having been an advisor to this conference for several years, how have you seen the met coke, coal, and coke industry evolve over time, and how has the conference adapted to reflect these changes?

Perhaps more so than any other commodity in the steel “bubble”, met coal and coke are facing the full effects of decarbonisation agendas around the globe. However, this is only half the story – elsewhere, the prospects for coal and coke are strong and growing stronger. It is currently a very dynamic and evolving industry, and Eurocoke serves to shine a light on these developments.

2. What is your favourite part of being involved with this conference?

Personally, I really enjoy the presentations, whether it’s the views of market analysts or detailed and technical case studies. This is a degree of insight that you can’t find elsewhere.

3. What advice would you give to a first-time attendee of this conference?

Use the opportunity to get ahead of the curve on the coking coal industry through the presentations, then use the chance to mingle with a huge range of industry professionals.
