Ahead of this year's AsiaCoke 2024, we spoke with Arkadius Gorski,Project Manager & Engineering Manager at thyssenkrupp, to get a sneak peek of what we can expect from his presentation on 'High-capacity stamp charging coke oven batteries – the future in coke making' Here's what he had to say...
Q1. Hi Arkadius, it’s great to have you joining AsiaCoke 2024! Please could you share an overview of what your presentation “High-capacity stamp charging coke oven batteries – the future in coke making” will cover?
- introduction of improved technologies for stamp charge coke ovens.
- Commercial issues driving the decision to choose stamp technology. -> Higher investment costs but saving during the operation years due
to lower costs to coal blend.
- Overview of our recently built two stamp charge coke oven plants in China.
Q2. Why did you choose to tackle this topic?
Since the recourses of good baking coal are getting very limited and the price for good baking coal is very high recently compared with the price for coke on the market it is the good opportunity to invest into stamp technology where the good baking coal can be substituted by low backing coal with lower price per t of coal. Further we see that many of our customers place requests and think to change or to add into their plants stamp charging batteries, although many of them top charge batteries have.
Q3. What do you think are the key challenges facing the industry in 2024 and 2025?
The main challenge in my opinion is the transformation to be green and to afford the huge amount of hydrogen which is necessary for the green transformation which of course will be not finalized by 2025. In this connection also the acceptance of the clients to pay higher prices for the industry plants build according to the green technology and also of the goods produced by green technology.
Q4. What are you looking forward to at this year's AsiaCoke Summit?
I am looking forward to meeting new people from different countries and different fields of work who will present new and interesting aspects of the future development of the coke industry.
Q5. Why do you feel it's important for people to attend the Summit?
The answer to this question is very similar to the answer to the question before. The attendees can widen the horizon about the coke industry taking into account the different topics of the summit.
